Frequently Asked Questions

What do your services cost?

We bill by the hour for our services. Since every site we build is "custom-made" based on consultation with our clients, the actual cost varies. If you're evaluating several web design firms attempting to establish a budget for your project, you'll probably find a very wide range of costs. We're not the cheapest design firm in the area, nor are we the most expensive. You'll find our fees very competitive with other firms that produce similar quality "high-end" work.

How long does it take to produce a web site?

Again, because every project is different, time frames vary. Expect a small, basic site to take 2-3 weeks and larger projects anywhere from 4 to 16 weeks.

What software does WebMedia use to design sites?

We work directly with source code because most of the sites we build have dynamic interactive content, which requires complex programming which authoring software such as FrontPage cannot create. We've tried just about every tool there is for website creation, from Notepad to Flash but have settled on time-saving software that helps us write code faster. We know the guts of our work, and are never confined by the limitations of authoring software.

How do you suggest web hosting be handled?

We prefer to host the sites we build, although this isn't a requirement. The hosting component of your web presence is vital. Most sites we build have sophisticated custom-built interactive features which require a high level of access to web server that most hosting companies won't allow on their servers. To solve this problem we actually run our own web servers, so that we can always say "yes" to even the most daunting technical requirements.

How do we maintain and update our site once it's completed?

Almost every site we build often includes our "Content Manager" for changing content such as press releases and event calendars. This password-protected site lets you update your pages with a simple web form. Without a system like this, relying on yourself for complete maintenance and updates requires at least basic knowledge of HTML. For each client, whether to handle maintenance in-house or outsource it is a decision based on how much time and expertise your staff has to devote to the task. Some of our clients decide to bring their website completely in-house, while others rely on us to make all changes.

How can our site "get found" by internet search engines?

This is a simple question with a very complex answer. It's important to look at search engines as one component of your site marketing plan. For some companies, search engine marketing may be more productive than others. In any case, we'll help you identify and prioritize how important search engines will be while we are early in the design process. That way, we can design and write copy for the site so that it is more "search engine friendly".
